In many ways the Asian boom is only beginning. In many areas refrigerators, bathrooms and private cars have not yet reached the masses. The sun has not yet risen over the broad economic development - it is still an hour before dawn.

This is a book, in four parts, about establishing and managing a business in Asia (an English version, "Navigating Asia" is still being worked on):

The New Map

discusses how quickly the economic map has changed and new frontiers have opened. The old school atlas simply isn't relevant any more. National borders do no longer define economies - most of the worlds economic development takes place in some forty urban mega regions, not seldom crossing national borders.

The New Game

shows the social rules that must be followed by those who want to establish relations or businesses in Asia - many contrary to what our intuition tells us. Most important is that it does not really matter how smart the idea is or how clever the product may be if fundamental relations and trust have not been established.

The New Leadership

discusses the challenges that have to be faced while working on the cultural frontier - and how they can be overcome. Just following intuition often goes wrong since fundamental attitudes are not changed by globalized fast food or fashion. If you want to influence, understand and be understood across cultural border must learn to change social code, which is not the same as changing one's personality. It is more a question of understanding then expression.

The New Perspective

shows the new strategic landscape that has to be navigated by management and the critical choices that have to be made, before taking the leap. To go global is beyond "export". The new worldview challenges all basics like general cost levels, where to place placing of head office as well as finding and retaining relevant talent. It also requires a new strategic perspective. In this chapter I also suggest four steps to a successfully establish a business in Asia and the team required to win the match.
